Phonic Soup | Building Early Reading Skills
Phonic Soup is a developmentally sequenced literacy program designed to help children build the foundational skills they need to become confident readers. Using a multi-sensory approach, the program introduces important reading concepts in ways that are engaging, interactive, and enjoyable for young learners.
Children learn by listening, speaking, seeing, and actively participating in activities that help them understand how sounds, letters, and words work together. Skills are introduced progressively, allowing children to build upon what they have already learned while developing greater confidence in their ability to communicate, recognize words, and begin reading.
Through Phonic Soup, children develop important early literacy skills, including:
- Sound Production – learning to correctly produce individual speech sounds
- Sound Identification – recognizing and distinguishing different sounds
- Symbol-Sound Relationships – connecting letters and symbols with the sounds they represent
- Sound Manipulation – learning how sounds can be changed, added, removed, or rearranged to create different words
- Segmenting – breaking words into their individual sounds
- Blending – combining individual sounds to form words
- Vocabulary and Language Building – expanding vocabulary and strengthening communication skills
- Spelling – beginning to understand how sounds and letters work together to form written words
- Reading Prediction – using context, pictures, and other clues to anticipate what may happen or what words may come next
- Reading Comprehension – developing the ability to understand, remember, and discuss what has been read
